The Bulb Refer-a-Friend Program
Word of mouth has long been the holy grail of a marketing tool for lot’s companies. Happy customers telling their friends and family about their experiences creates a batch of new potential customers, which is that’s companies dream. The clever guys at Bulb are aware of this and want to encourage you to not forget to spread the word. They do this by offering your friends, family members, colleagues etc £50 account credit when they join. Who wouldn’t want to help their friends with a tip about an affordable green energy provider, that will also give a super cheap first month’s bill?!
If you are here to look for a bulb referral link so you can get a £50 bonus when you sign up, look no further!
Why do they do it?
According to Nielson (the data analytics company) “92% of respondents trusted referrals from people they knew”. They also discovered in their study that “people are 4 times more likely to buy when referred by a friend”. It’s a much more efficient way to spend a marketing budget than online or tv ads. It’s great for us customers too. Firstly, companies relying on customers to evangelise about their service need to maintain a high bar for their service/ product and customer service otherwise word of mouth goes the other way and awful stories of mistakes and problems will spread like wildfire. The Bulb referral program is keep them on their toes – customers in control! Secondly, the financial reward is a great bonus. When you sign up through a referral link, both you and the referrer get a bonus on their energy bill – so why not sign up via a referral link and once you have used the system (and providing you are happy) you can tell your friends and get some more account credit if people join.
Giving Bulb a Chance to Compete
As I’m sure you are aware, the UK energy scene is dominated by just a small core of huge energy companies. We’ve all heard about the Big 6 haven’t we; British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON, Npower, Scottish Power, and SSE are the superpowers of UK electric and gas power! They have a huge customer base with a market share of close to 80% according to Ofgem. This isn’t intrinsically wrong but competition is key to an efficient market for us consumers and currently, it’s hard for the small guys to compete. Can you imagine the marketing and advertising budgets sloshing around in these companies with a combined 50m customers in the UK? Don’t get me wrong, I love the British Gas little penguin guy as much as the next person but I can see how the big six have a much easier job attracting customers than smaller companies.
This is where word of mouth marketing comes in, to help level the playing field. They use their happy customer base to spread the word of cost savings, good customer service and green energy investment! In the words of Bulb (from their blog), “Sharing your bulb referral link is good for the planet, your friends and your wallet”.
How do I get involved?
First things first, you need to switch to Bulb and start using their service. You can get a quote and start the switch process by clicking on my bulb referral link. This will qualify you for your £50 account credit which will land when the switch goes through. Once this has happened, use their service. Discover their online platform, provide meter readings, check out the online support, even call their support line if you have problems. Presumably you will be happy (if you aren’t, discuss your issues with Bulb – they’ll be happy to help) and you’ll be in a position to start sharing your thoughts with family and friends. The most important thing to remember is you need to refer your friend via your own bulb referral link otherwise the referral won’t track as your referral and you/ your friend will not get their bonus.
To find your unique link, just log into your Bulb Account and navigate to the “Refer a Friend” section. At the top left of the page you will see your link like in the picture.
Your referral link will look something like this: bulb.co.uk/refer/yourownexample. There will not be any two identical links, so Bulb know that anyone who signs up after click this specific link is indeed one of your friends. Your friend will land on your own page (with your name on it) offering them the opportunity to get a quote and proceed with a switch, should the quote meet their expectations. To repeat my word of warning, your friend has to click on this link for it to be tracked back to you. I guess it’s not literal word of mouth! You will need to follow up your conversation with a quick email containing your link.
The switch takes 3 weeks to complete and assuming your friend sticks to their decision to switch to Bulb (they don’t have to), the bonus payments will arrive in yours and your friends account on day 21. You can track the status of your referrals in your account which updates whenever someone signs-up via your link. You also get an email from Bulb letting you know.
You are not limited to referring just your best friend, tell all your family, friends, colleagues, club members and share the love. As Bulb say on their site, “there are “only” about 26 million homes in the UK, so you’ve got a few to get through before you run out.”
